toot at the WEF
May 18th, 2006

Taken from 360East, the blog of tooter Ahmad Humeid:

I am sitting in the Queen Alia airport departure hall waiting for my flight to Sharm el Shiekh, where I will be attending the World Economic Forum on the Middle East. I’ve been invited to be on the panel on youth and technology, as co-founder of Toot. The panel will discuss the effects of technologies like SMS and blogging on the social, political and business development of the region and how young people are using these technologies.

I will report from the conference if I get the chance.

Go toot!

Arrested
May 7th, 2006

toot blogger and democacy activist Alaa of Manalaa.net was arrested today during a protest to support the Judiciary’s branch fight for independence. He, and about 10 others, were rounded up in the street, beaten up and thrown in a police car.

The Egyptian Sandmonkey says, “But by all the gods in heaven, if they keep him more than another day I will start my own campaign and will not rest till we free him like we did AbdelKarim. I will be damned if we let the regime get away with this. So, readers, if things come to that, we will need your help. The Committe to protect bloggers is no more , we are on our own and the regime is getting more desperate, paranoid and brutal by the minute. We will most certainly need your support to get him out, but let’s just hope it doesn’t come to that.
For now, all we can do, is wait and see.
Rabena yostor!”

Meanwhile, Freedom for Egyptians gives her opinion on the Mubarak regime, “A wide campaign for mass arrests for Egyptian citizens who are defending the rights of others detainees and the right for independent judiciary in Egypt has been launched by the regime of Mubarak to clamp down on any chance for change towards reform and democracy …. Following the setbacks of the presidential and legislative elections which I persoanlly call a farce Egyptians had nothing to cling to. They knew they are stuck with a president who wants to rule for life and a cooked representation in the parliament.

skypecasts
May 6th, 2006

Skype released a skypecasts, which gives you the ability to host up to 100 people and have control as a moderator… you can control mute, reject and microphone pass! This should be very relevant for those doing podcasts…

However, you can not still record conversations with skype, unless you use third party plug-ins to achieve that… unlike Project Gizmo that has it as a built-in feature…

Take me to skypecasts…
