Some are cynical, others are optimistic. All are extremely happy that the Bush is gone. Here’s a little round-up of what the tooters had to say about the lastest president of the world:
The Black Iris, Jordan, is among the cynical: “I hate sounding cynical. But I’m trying to be realistic here. This is not to say I hate the guy. I don’t even know him. And to be fair, it’s still his first day on the job. But seriously. Looking at how people are reacting to this. Especially the more westernized Jordanians here. You would think the Messiah has returned. And it’s not like this is ordinarily a bid deal. People are free to idolize whomever they wish. But to invest that much blind faith in a man who is bound to the predictable whims of an office? I mean Americans are free to do it. He’s their president. But for anyone in the Arab world to think things here will actually change?”
Raed in the Middle, Iraq, thinks its all empty, “While I deeply appreciated all these nice gestures, they all were dwarfed by yesterday’s attack on Afghanistsn that killed 25 people, and today’s attack on Pakistan that killed 20 people. These new criminal attacks on Pakistan and Afghanistan not only killed dozens of civilians in their homes, but also exposed and shattered Obama’s hollow promises. Obama’s choice to continue the same old U.S. policy in disregarding other nation-states’ sovereignty cannot be excused, and the bombs that assassinated Pakistanis and Afghans during the last couple of days cannot be sugarcoated by some nice gestures.”
Whisper of Madness, Egypt, also doesn’t see why people are so excited about Obama, “A trendy liberal yuppie walking out of the elevator talking to her friend Oh my God, did you see the inauguration…did you see OBAMA!?!?!? I’m gonna downloaded it so I can watch it whenever I want! Seriously, what is wrong with all these people, have they lost their damn minds!? Is Obama sneaking into their bedroom at night and giving them sweet lovin’? If you have a political crush on Obama I’m sorry to pee in your pool, you might not be as cynical as I am but you’ll get it eventually.”
Over at Kabob Fest, Palestine, they are a little less cynical now, “OK, so maybe he was not totally bullshitting us. Or maybe he is. President Obama took some impressive measures to undo a boatload of President Bush’s War on Terror legalistic machinations according to the Washington Post. Yes, for the Post, Obama’s executive order undermining the war on terror, was panty-wetting.”
The Arab Observer , Jordan, disagrees, viewing Obama as a beacon of change, “The chapter of terror is closed. The chapter of war has ended. The chapter of blind dogmas is behind us. The American people have woke up and elected a new leader who can talk the language of humanity, the language of hope not fear as he put it himself. One who is confident enough of the right means that brings prosperity and peace not only to his nation but also to the whole nations of the world.”
Others are not as caught up over Obama, but just damn happy that the bush is gone.
7iber, Jordan, attended a goodbye-bush rally in Amman, “Around 200 Jordanians gathered at the Professional Association Complex in the Shmisani district last night to bid US President George W. Bush farewell. While Barack Obama, the 44th US President, was busy being sworn in on television, Jordanians tossed their old shoes at a large poster of Bush until it was eventually torn down.”
