Survey on Bloggers
August 19th, 2007

Eman Ebed at the London School of Economics is conducting a survey on bloggers, as part of a research project that addresses the role of new media in inspiring and shaping political reform processes in Egypt. She needs members of the Arab blogging community to fill out a survey on their experiences in the blogosphere. The survey will not take more than 15-20 minutes of your time and you may remain anonymous, if you so wish. Contact Eman at emanebed[at]gmail.com for more information.

TootCorp is Hiring
April 23rd, 2007

itoot.net and ikbis.com need some extra hands. We are hiring in the following areas:

1. CSS Guru
If you are someone who knows about the creatures that live within the 1px world, then you are the right person for this position. Basically, you are someone who can’t sleep well tonight because you couldn’t get the sidebar 1px to the left! You dream of rounded corners, gradients, CSS3 and of that dark blue font color (e.g. #125D70)!

You believe that tables are for tabular data, and divs are for layouting. You utterly enjoy solving browser compatibility issues for IE6, IE7, Safari, FF and Opera. You enjoy it so much that you started to develop a sense of how these browsers think even on a bad day!

2. Videocast Authors
We are looking for amateur or professional videocast authors to work on experimental productions. Students are most welcomed. You will be responsible for the production from A to Z, from transcript to the audio, from shooting to editing…etc.

3. Community Leaders
If you are someone who enjoys growing online communities and playing a leading role in them, then we would like to have you onboard. You will be responsible for moderating content, creating content, answering questions, breaking news, organizing events, and celebrating occasions within the community of ikbis.com.

4. RoR Developers
You ditched PHP, MS, Python, Java for RoR! Then you are someone who needs to get in touch with us. We need RoR developers. Don’t shy if you have no experience or so-called “formal experience”. You could be a 16-year old kid who knows more about RoR than others who have several years of experience.

5. Project Manager
You will be responsible for overlooking the development cycles at TootCorp and following up with the team members on to-dos and milestones. You will be taking part in our 6-hour weekly brainstorming session, and taking notes of the many brilliant ideas that we never wrote on paper. You will develop by time the skill of knowing what’s brilliant and what’s lame. As a project manager, you will be also working on business proposals and following up with our business partners.

—————————————-

Please send your resume to karim@itoot.net

Applicants outside Jordan are welcomed for all the positions above except for the Project Manager position. All you need to include is your Skype username for an interview!

Total lack of style
September 15th, 2006

After Apple’s “It’s Showtime” event in which they have announced the latest in their iPod product line, Microsoft has started to issue some press releases about their Zune thing… the thing is a 30GB digital media player… an iPod wannabe…

But it has one thing which is unique:

“Of specific interest to TC readers, however, is the social sharing system. The Zune has 802.11 networking built in and you can send a song to your friend for three days or three plays, which ever comes first. The goal, obviously, is to sell music. However, we could also conceivably see this as a MySpace-like network of users who pop music to each other with giddy abandon and infect others with their musical stylings on the train (perhaps a sandwich board that says “I’ll Send My New HARDCORE RAP Single to Your Zune. Talk to me. Please?”) Once you get back home you can connect to the Zune Marketplace - and presumably an artists home page - where you can learn more and buy music.” Techcrunch

The marketplace thing, i mean, why do they call it a “marketplace”!? It’s sooooooo Microsoft… The Zune Marketplace which is supposed to be something like iTunes store is gonna be a seperate application and not part of Windows Media Player…

Anyway, the most important thing is that Apple has nothing to worry about… This Zune thing will be hammered….

Oh yeah… forgot to mention that Zune will come in 3 colors! This is already too many colors for Microsoft… black, white & brown… of course… we all know who came up with black and white…

This is the list!
June 25th, 2006

I love lists that don’t include Bill Gates! Business 2.0 compiled a list of top 50 people who are changing our world! And Bill Gates is not one of them! OK.. of course he is in the list! His job title is Benefactor, and works for Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

In the list is you! Steve Jobs, Brin and Page, Ozzie, flickr founders and Niklas Zennström of Skype!

Wicked. :)
